WWE's Light Heavyweight Championship. The belt originated in the Universal Wrestling Association in 1981 and passed through Michinoku Pro Wrestling and New Japan, but WWE recognizes its lineage from December 1997, when TAKA Michinoku won a tournament to become champion. A showcase for the Attitude-era light heavyweight and cruiserweight division, it was abandoned during the 2001 Invasion angle and officially retired in 2002 with X-Pac as the final champion.
