This NWA World Tag Team Championship dates to 1992, when Steve Williams & Terry Gordy's WCW/NWA reign began a lineage distinct from the older territorial NWA tag titles. After WCW left the NWA in 1993 the title continued through the independent NWA, was defended on WWF television in 1998, and served as the de facto top tag prize of NWA: Total Nonstop Action from 2002 to 2007 before the NWA reclaimed it. America's Most Wanted (Chris Harris & James Storm) hold the record with six reigns, while The Skullkrushers (Keith Walker & Rasche Brown) hold the longest reign at 777 days. It is the immediate predecessor of the TNA World Tag Team Championship.
