Created by CMLL in 2010 after its decades-long relationship with the National Wrestling Alliance broke down and the NWA ordered the promotion to stop using its name on the old NWA World Light Heavyweight title. El Texano Jr., the last CMLL-recognized champion of that title, was installed as the inaugural champion of this distinct lineage. Rey Bucanero holds the record with two reigns, El Texano Jr.’s 124-day run is the shortest, and Stuka Jr.’s 1,635-day reign is the longest. Averno took the title from Atlantis Jr. at Fantastica Mania in Tokyo in February 2026, ending a 1,118-day reign. The title is also billed as the CMLL World Historic Light Heavyweight Championship.
